All the Apps from Twisted Electron have been removed from the App Store. I don't know why... Too bad... Published on 13 Sep 2013 The new App from twisted Electron, and my favorite one. STIX is a Drum synthesizer, and for me, the best in its category because of its ease of use and the number of parameters available to shape your sound. You can even draw your waveform and create a synthesizer sound if you like! STIX is a 16 channel (8x2 voices) sampling synthesizer and sequencer. Each of the parameters can be controlled via MIDI. STIX is also a 8 channel 16 step drum sequencer with recording functionality. The sequencer's 8 patterns can be chained into songs in Track Mode. A Killer App! Review by Ed

Nothing to add... Published on 18 Sep 2013 Boinkss is a random "noise" machine. I think that it's best for you to watch the Video Demo... I really love this little App because the sound it generates, because of the fun that I've had with it. Because also, I can make use of my talents as a painter... (check this post out) To conclude: It is the second App that I have tested from this developer, Sonicscan Touch and this one. Both Apps are really cool. The sounds generated are really original, the UI as well. The only thing is that, us iOS musicians, we need to have sharing features, at least one, the Audiobus... So, like for my other review, I have to rate it as a Killer App in the Entertainment category, and as a Super App in the Noise Machine category. Review by Ed App Store description:
Boinkss is a sound toy that uses simulated physics to create shifting sonic patterns and freeform sequences. The player draws colourful lines and shapes, then drops bouncing balls into their creation. The collisions of the balls results in dynamic and varied sounds. The different colours in the palette relate to different sound types, which can be combined in many different ways. Draw, bounce, sound = Boinkss Note: - This application is now compatible with iPad3 or later, iPhone 4S or later, and iPod Touch 5th generation or later. - Headphones recommended. **Rated as a "Killer App" by Apps4iDevices** OS >= 8.0 I don't know what's happening to me the day I made this review, but it seems that I had something else to do... So, here is my shortest review and video... Petites Ondes is unfortunately no more available. If you like to play an Ondes Martelot, try Ribbons from Olympia Noise Co (To find a specific App, go to the Home page then Tap the Music Logo icon) Published on 28 Jan 2012 Petites Ondes is an Ondes Martenot! The first for iDevices! The App is pretty well done, you can play with the ring like a real one... A great App! Ondes MartelotThe ondes Martelot, "Martenot waves"), also known as the ondium Martenot, Martenot and ondes musicales, is an early electronic musical instrument invented in 1928 by Maurice Martenot. The original design was similar in sound to the theremin. The sonic capabilities of the instrument were later expanded by the addition of timbral controls and switchable loudspeakers. The instrument's eerie wavering notes are produced by varying the frequency of oscillation in vacuum tubes. The production of the instrument stopped in 1988, but several conservatories in France still offer instruction to students of the instrument. In 1997 the Ondéa project began designing an instrument based on the ondes Martenot. Since the Martenot name is still protected, the new instrument is called Ondéa, but has the playing and operational characteristics of the original ondes Martenot. In 2001 a completed prototype was first used in concerts. These instruments have been in regular use since 2005.[4][5] In 2017, a new version of the Ondéa, built by Audities Studio of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, became available.[6] Since 2008 Jean-Loup Dierstein, with the support of Maurice Martenot's son, has been developing a new, officially named ondes Musicales instrument based on the model used when production stopped in 1988.[7] In 2016, ASADEN, a small company based in Asakusa, Japan, started distributing the first 'Ondomo' instruments. The Ondomo is a smaller, analog ondes Martenot instrument that has been in prototyping stages for several years. In my review below I was talking about details, but I forgot to mentioned one... The Oscillator is developed by Jonatan Liljedahl / Kymatica. AUM, Audio Share, BitWiz, Sector, and the Aufx plugins! Since this review, an On / Off swidtch, display pitches as MIDI note number in addition to frequency in Hz, a Pan parameter for each oscillator and a few improvements. The last update was released 1 month ago: iOS 11 ready! Another detail: the Oscillator is tsotally Free! Published on 9 May 2013 This App has 2 Oscillators, one Noise generator, each with individual lowpass filters and the Audiobus feature... The Audiobus, a detail? No it isn't... Why? Because you will be able to use The Oscillator as a Drone, a Noise and an Fx machine as well... Watch the demo video... Another detail... I don 't know how the developer made this, but the sensation when you dragging a slider is really cool... A Killer oscillator! Review by Ed App Store description: Simple and elegant tone generator with two Oscillators and one Noise generator, each with individual lowpass filters. The oscillators also has panning, and can produce one of four waveforms: sine, triangle, sawtooth and square. The oscillator frequencies can be tuned precisely in Hz or fractional MIDI note pitch. Use it for testing purposes or to make old-school electronic drone music. Supports Audiobus and Inter-App Audio: Stream the audio output in real time into other compatible apps! OS >= 9.0 Drum On is still available in the App Store. The quality of the samples was really great. 2 months after my review the Audiobus feature was added. Despite this, I don't think that it's a good idea to buy this App actually. The last update was released in December 2013... Published on 9 May 2013 Drum on: Drum until your dreams come true... Before I start this review, I have to make a little correction to the App Store description... Drum on is not a Drum Machine, but a Drum Pad... The sound quality is perfect, the sample length is too. The latency seems to be close to 0... You can choose to display 8, 12 or 16 Pads on the screen. You can set the Volume, the Pan individually for each Pad. Unfortunately you can't create a custom kit.. You can add Delay, Reverb or distortion on the Master out, and change the order of the effects in series, which is really cool. Note that a specific bus for the effects would be better... You can also import a track from your Music library, loop a section and change the speed. A metronome is also available. To conclude... Drum on has a really great sound, certainly one of the best sample qualities on the App Store in the Drum Pad and Drum Machine categories with iGog... The App is very very well done, but at this time it's missing some features like the possibility to record and share your performances to make it as a Killer Drum Pad, but is only the 1.0 version... So, I suppose that it will be in a future update... A Super Drum Pad. App Store description:

I remember this one. Perfectly.... If you are musician, if you have a child, and if you like that he learn music, Kids ear training is certainly the best App for them. Check out the review below. Unfortunately, the Apps4idevices website has been deleted a few years ago, so you will not be able to find the check list at the end of this post... Published on 19 Sep 2013 This App is wonderful, it is made for kids who want to practice their ear. The App works like most of the Ear Training Apps, but the developer team has added a lot of Sound Fx, voices, background music which makes this App more attractive. The exercises are also specially made with them in mind.At the beginning, they will have to recognise a higher or a lower sound, then a bend up or down. After, same as for us, "the big stuff", the keys. But here the developer has made Ear Training Kids easier for them, because they will progress step by step. For example, they will have to recognize a C from a D, after a C, a D or a E and so on.If they answer right, they win points, if not they lose points.I really love this App, because here, you don't have bears, monkeys, cats, dogs, but a little poetic universe made for your little love. A Killer App! I forgot one thing... On the Main page, a button allows you to change the game mode... All the Sets included... Incredible! From easy to advanced, fun, hard,... Check the list out, at the end of this post... Review from Ed App Store description:
Kids Ear Training by mDecks Music is ideal for kids studying an instrument and/or in choir. This is a complete ear training method containing: Introduction to Sound, Solfege, Kodaly Signs, Movable Do, Perfect Pitch, Intervals and Triads. You will learn how a musical element sounds (alone and in context) by searching for it. Kids Ear Training was designed to introduce essential musical elements and concepts and help the student identify those elements by ear. The app has a guided study mode, in which the student progress is taken into account to determine when he/she is ready to advance to the next level. You will learn essential sound concepts such as: Low vs. High pitched. Ascending/descending/constant pitch, etc. Fun elements recognition such as: animal sounds, instruments and instruments families (Brass, Woodwinds, Strings...) Movable Do (relative pitch) vs. Perfect pitch: Solfege, Kodaly Signs, Perfect Pitch by note name/ music notation (test if you can develop perfect pitch and learn relative pitch with ease) All Intervals: Major, minor, Perfect, augmented, diminished Intervals are presented alone and in context All Triads: Major, minor, augmented, diminished. Triads are presented alone and in context Features: Study Modes: Guided Study Mode: The app controls the levels availability based on your progress Free Study Mode: You can play any stage and level freely. Endurance Mode on/off: The next exercises starts immediately after. Music Notation on/off: You may enable music notation (when available) if you want to recognize musical elements using prefect pitch (if you have it) and/or music theory (by recognizing the requested item from the staff) Wave String: You may view the signature wave of an interval, triad or seventh if you want to use a visual input as an aid in memorizing the sound. Volume Balance: control between the background music (context) and the sound behind the circles. Statistics: A record of your performance is kept in the stats panel (one for the free mode and one for the guided mode) Chordpolypad was and is still my favourite Chords player. First because of its ease to use, the ability to play any kind of chords (custom chords), even single notes, the Chords library, the X & Y axis, the 8 groups of 16 Pads or 2 groups of 64 Pads, the presets manager... As I said, it's my favourite Chords player Apps... Published on 13 Sep 2013 I'm sure that you all know StepPolyArp ... And I'm also sure that it's your favourite sequencer on the App Store... Right? ChordPolyPad - Midi Chords Player is the new release from Laurent Colson and this new App is simply awesome! A new reference in this category, the best in this category... As I always say, playing chords on an iPad is not easy, for this reason, we need an App to help us, that is what this App is for, but ChordPolyPad is more than this... So, I'll try to describe you the App... On the main screen, 16 Pads. Below, a Keyboard... Tap a Pad, Tap one or several keys on the keyboard to create a Chord,Tap again on the Pad to play your Chord. That's all... So simple! Now, you can play your chord (Strumming or not) with a sound from the built in library or with another App or Software in your Computer... That's not all, each Pad can send a Midi message to a different App... It means that you can control 16 machines with this App... No, in fact, it's not quite true... You can control 48 Machines! Why? Because you can assign to each Pad 2 CC on the X and Y axes... Awesome! For example, you can play chords with an App loaded in the input slot of the Audiobus and send CC to another App in the Effect slot... But there's more! ChordPolyPad also comes loaded with a chord library and different types of scales which can help you to create your chord progression... Check out this post and the video demo... A new 'bench mark', a Must Have Killer App!!! App Store description:
ChordPolyPad is a chords player for Midi instruments, sequencers like Logic, Cubase, Live and all other Midi sequencers, or even virtual instruments installed on the same iPad. The chords can be played live from pads. Although, ChordPolyPad is specially designed to operate in Midi, it has own internal sounds bank to use it independently. Rated "Killer Application" by App4iDevices. Features: • 8 groups of 16 pads or 2 groups of 64 pads by preset (128 pads) • Midi port and Midi channel assignable for each pad • Customizable X/Y controller for each pad • Velocity assignable for each chord note • Strumming setup by pad • Features copy and paste for pads and groups • Draggable chords directly from library • Searching for chords available in scales • Random chords for instant inspiration • Multitasking • Internal sound bank • Receiving Midi notes and control from external devices • Send Midi to a virtual port that can be used as Midi input by other Core Midi compatible applications managing multitasking on the same device • Presets manager • Presets shared with computer using iTunes 9.1 or later • Undo/Redo Supported Midi connections: • Midi over Bluetooth • Midi Wifi Network (RTP Midi) • Apple USB camera connection kit • Any Core Midi compatible interface Inter Applications connections: • Apple Inter-App Audio connection (Midi, audio, transport control) • Audiobus support (Midi, audio, transport control, state saving) Requirements: • An iPhone or an iPad with iOS 8 or later Documentation: http://laurentcolson.com/medias/ChordPolyPad/en/ChordPolyPad.pdf I am really really surprised that this App no more exist... What's happened? I don't know,... I just hope that the developer is OK.... Interpol, the band is still available but not in the App Store... It was among my favourite bands until that Gregson left the band... I added a video of my favourite song... Interpol is an intergovernmental organization facilitating international police cooperation. It was established as the International Criminal Police Commission (ICPC) in 1923 and adopted its telegraphic address as its common name in 1956. Euh... No, I think that I'm wrong... Interpol Interpol is an American rock band from New York City. Formed in 1997, the band's original line-up consisted of Paul Banks, Daniel Kessler, Carlos Dengler and Greg Drudy. Drudy left the band in 2000 and was replaced by Sam Fogarino. Euh... No, I'm still wrong, but this band is awesome.... So, Interpol is a monophonic synthesiser, or I should say, 2 monophonic synthesiser... It allows you to create two sound setups and morph seamlessly between them with the cross-fader. "The 6 voices can either be set to de-tunable unison or you can choose between 8 chord structures. When morphing between chords, the notes glide like polyphonic portamento, great for atmospheric sounds! Over 40 parameters can be merged and all seamlessly and in real time. Interpol also features audiobus and midi and you can save and load your favorite presets." To conclude, playing with the slider to morphi the 2 synthesisers (and the Chord preset also) is really cool. The App is really simple and well done. A Super App! I am really sad that all the App from Walter Beasley have been removed from the App Store. I don't know why... But this guy was and is still (I hope) a great Saxophone player.... Published on 20 Sep 2013 With Hip Hop / Groove Improvisation you will have as teacher, Walter Beasley. He is a famous jazzman and a Professor of Performance at Berklee College. The App comes with a big video. 45 minutes... 17 examples or lessons are included and marked in this video. For these lessons, Walter Beasley uses a Keyboard also, which is really cool... We can hear with our eyes also... more easier to understand... Each example comes with a music sheet. You also have a Scales library and a Practice mode: play over a track. A Super App! Review by Ed It was the first time that I rated an App from XME as a Killer App... I am not a big fan of all the recording studio Apps from XME, but this one came with some features that I really loved: The ability to extract the Audio from a Youtube video / the ability to record an online radio... I try to find in the App Store if this App has been rename, but I didn't see another App from XME with these features... Published on 24 Sep 2013 Studio 2 is really different from the other Recorder or Workstations on the App Store... The purpose is not the same as a recorder like Auria or Multitrack Daw, and nor the same as a Workstation like Meteor or BeatMaker 2. For the recorder section, you only have 2 Effects: A Reverb and a Delay (2 Busses). The editor is also really simple : Copy, Cut, Split / Fade in & out... But the others don't have what follows ... 96 tracks! The possibility to extract the Audio from a Youtube Video, the possibility to recordan online Radio. Drag the bottom handle of an Audio track to repeat it! And this that the others have: the Audiobus and the Open in features, Automation for the Volume and Pan. Great! I said that it is also a Workstation because it comes with an internal MIDI module: the BeatPad. For 4.49€, you can unlock and download all the available Sounds. A big, very good quality, library of sound with a BeatPad as a DrumPad, no keyboard, but all the samples from a tune instrument are assigned to each of the 16 Pads. You also have some Chords kits (Major, minor...). For the editing, just a quantise feature. To conclude, Studio 2 is very well done and I really love its UI, very clear... Sure, that a Pro musician could be disoriented by the lack of some features, but for myself, I will keep it on my iPad 4 and also instal it on my other iDevices, because I really love its ease of use. The possibility to work with so many tracks. There is however two things that I would really love to have in a future update: an undo button and an input monitor... A Killer App! (I'm sure that it can be better and better with time, still keeping its originality). (There are also some little bugs, but it is a new born App... so it is normal...) Review by Ed |
