2 weeks ago, I made the review of RF-1. A Reverb, but not only… today, I am making the review of RP-1 a delay, but not only… The UI is separated in 2 sections. On the top the “First” delay with 6 rotary knobs. A High and Lowpass, a Feedback, a Time, a Mix and a Spread which allows you to control the effect stereo field. On the right side, a sync switch (RP -1 comes with the Ableton Link feature). When enable you will be able to control the delay Time with Clock subdivision instead of time. (Cool!) Below a Loop switch will set the Time at which the input signal is delayed and to finish a Bypass (for this section). The second section is The Mod Section. The first knob on the left side allows you to select one of 7 different algorithms: Chorus, Vibrato, Flanger, Panner, Phaser, Tremolo & Delay. As you can see, you have another delay here… A Panner too which is really great because of the lack of Auto Panner in the App Store… The 3 other knobs: Feedback, Amount and Frequency. On the Right side, a Pre and a Post switch. A Bypass for this section too. To conclude, RP-1 is a Multi Fx. 2 can be used at the same time. The quality of processing is great. Some effect like the Vibrato, the Tremolo and the Panner are not very widespread in the App Store, so… A Killer App, a Must Have!

modstep is a Midi Sequencer. No,… modstep is The Midi Sequencer! Yes, it’s the best one from all the App Store… no doubt with this… and too bad for the suspense! There are so many reasons for this that it’s impossible for me to describe here all the great features included in it, But I will give you an overview of some of them that impressed me the most. The first one is not a feature, but the stability of the App. To make the tutorial, I worked everyday with modstep during more than 1 month… 2 weeks ago, I deleted my tutorial from my iPad, and I had to restart it from the beginning... (Note that because of this. I am known now as the modstep expert in all the Galaxies…). During all this time, no bugs! The second thing is the UI. Very easy to understand and the Drag & Drop feature is so cool! Some technic characteristics now... unlimited scenes! Variable speed per pattern! Unlimited MIDI & Audio Tracks! IAA compatible app or Audio Unit as an instrument or effect. -unlimited number of effects per track and Audiobus support. modstep comes also with a Sampler and a Synthesizer too. The Sampler comes with a huge library of drum kits / pitch, volume, reverse, fx per slot, 3 band-eq, delay and reverb. The built in Synthesizer with up to 64 harmonics per voice, 3-band eq, delay, reverb, lfo and detune. It comes also with 2 edit modes: a “Classic” Grid editor and a Step sequencer with a repeat notes feature.. An integrated keyboard with scales, a drum-pads. Up to 128 CC modulations per track! A sophisticated template system allows quick setup of tracks to control external MIDI hardware, apps or plugins.... More? Check out the tutorial below! In summary modstep is very powerful, very study, very well done and very easy to use. The Best MIDI Sequencer from the App Store! A Killer App. A Must Have!
Review by Ed I bought a lot of Reverb in the App Store… I also have a lot of Reverb in Auria Pro… in my iPad, I have Aufx Space, I love its “neutral” colour, and the quality of processing. I also have AudioReverb. I love to use it like an Effect, I mean when I want a huge Reverb, when I want that people can ear it… and now I have also RF-1… when I tried it for the first time, it was on a Drum channel. The preset loaded was Concert Hall. At the moment I pushed the play button I was in a concert arena… Hallucinant! (In French) Amazing! (in English). Wahoo! After I tried it with my guitar, a vocal, on strings… perfect! Then, I started to use the 5 Reverb algorithms: hall, plate, ensembleverb, tremoloverb and vintageverb and load other presets. Then, I realised that RF-1 was more than a Reverb. I mean a "Classic" Reverb. Do you know a Tremolo Reverb in the App Store or in the real life? Do you you know a Ping-Pong Reverb too? (When I launched it the first time, 10' seconds after that I received a redeem code from the developer, I noticed in the IAA version the Tempo setting, the Tap Tempo button version. I said to myself, it's cool, but is it really necessary.... Sure, that it is, as well as the 2 modulation buttons.... Check out the video demo below. Note also that there is a Ableton Link feature, with it you will be able to control within RF-1 the Tempo of another App and be sure that your Tremolo or Ping-pong Reverb will be sync with your drums, guitar or else. All the parameters can be controlled via midi, so no problem for an automation too…) In summary, RF-1 is a versatile effect. If you have a small budget and need a Reverb, RF-1 is a good choice. If you have any problem with your budget, even if you own a lot of Reverb Apps, it’s a good choice too because of the processing quality, because RF-1 doesn’t use a lot of CPU. (Great for an Audio Unit plugins). Because of this Tremolo and Ping-pong Reverberation,! A Killer App! A Must Have!
Svep is a Joy Division, a The cure and a Sister of Mercy. Euh, no, sorry, I restart… Svep is a chorus, flanger and phaser. 3 modulation effects used by my favourite bands when I was 15 years old… Hey, Don’t go! (Yazoo 1982). I know that for a lot of people these 3 effects sound eighties but no, not only… led Zeppelin used a lot of phazer on their drums, Lenny Kravitz too… Daft Punk uses a flanger effects in a lot of titles and a chorus is used by lot of artists and sound engineers even if you can not really listen to it. OK! Furthermore,, these 3 effects must be in the basic setup of all sound engineers and guitar players! Like a hammer for a carpenter! So, let’s go back to Svep now. The UI is great, the processed signal is perfect. You can use it as a Stand Alone App, anIAA, an Audiobus & an Audio Unit plugins… A link's switch allows you to work on the L & R channel independently. If not set, a mono to stereo fader is displayed. You know what, if I stop my review here, even if I say that Svep is a Killer App, a Must Have for all Sound Engineers & Guitar’s players, I am sure that some of you will say: I hate the Chorus, the Flanger and Phazer effects… so I will not say this now and will add something to this review. I told you that the UI was great… yes, with one slide (with one or two fingers) up, down left or right, you will no more remember that you are using a Chorus, a Flanger or a Phaser… and if you unlink the 2 channels… things become crazy… so much, that the developer has been clever enough to add 3 presets in the Preset library. a Chorus, a Flanger, and a Phaser to return to the basic: the Chorus, the Flanger, and the Phaser. Svep is a Killer App, a Must Have for Sound Engineers, Guitar Players, Sound Designers,… wait, the list is too long… A Must Have for all iOS musicians, and it’s Free!
Review by Ed Jubal (or Yuval or Yubal) is a man mentioned in the Hebrew Bible, in Genesis 4:21. Known as the father of all who play the harp and flute, Jubal is the brother of Jabal and the half-brother of Tubal-Cain and half-brother of his half-sister Naamah. So, as you can see above, the Jubal Flute is a very old instrument. It’s among my favourite Instrument's family. My favourite one, is the Duduk, a double reed flute, one reed is used for the melody and the other one for the Drone… (Armenian people says that the Duduk is one of the first melodic instrument of the world…). If I love so much these instruments, it’s because when you listen to them, you travel. You jump in the past, because of this, all the movie's composers use them when they want to make you feel the beginning of our civilization. Let’s go back to the Jubal Flute App now. It’s a one instrument App, if I say this it’s because don’t expect to find a lot of menus, windows and features in this App. No, you have 1 keyboard, 2 if you like. A polyphonic option that allows you to play 2 parts or chords even if this, is not possible with the real instrument… also, a modulation wheel, a legato, a round robin switch, and a Reverb. In the Setting page you will find the Midi in and out channel and port settings. You can also set the Midi CC for the volume, the Reverb amount and size, the sustain Pedal, the Polysus and the legato. The App size: 42.5 Mb. That means that they use a lot of samples to create the Jubal Flute App and it’s certainly for this reason that the sound is perfect! Yes, perfect… in conclusion, it’s a Killer App, a Must Have for Arrangers, Composers, movie's cComposers, and all the fans of these family of instruments like me!
Review by Ed Before to start my review, I would like that you reed this, just below. tI’s on the user manual of Troublemaker in the developer's website. Basically, there are two envelopes in Troublemaker (like in the original TB); the AMP envelope, and the filter envelope. Where most synths give the user control over the AMP envelope using ADSR EG controls, there is no control whatsoever over the AMP envelope in Troublemaker. The AMP EG is triggered when a note starts, and it has a long, fixed decay of a few seconds. It is, in summary, the most unexciting envelope in the world. On the other hand, most of the magic of the acid sound comes from that other envelope: the filter envelope. Almost all of the main knobs on the synth interact with the filter envelope in one way or another. Did you read it? I hope so, because if you didn’t, you will not understand why a man (old) like me who don’t really love the electro sound, the 8 bit sound can fall in love with Troublemaker… yes, I love it! I love the generated sound. OK, it's write that it's not a TB303, and sure that it's not, it’s an App… an App better that the TB303… Better that the one I had when I was 18 years old. This App is very “Simple". On the top the Synthesizer that you can use as an Audio Unit App (s), and at the bottom the sequencer. That’s all, 1 window. 1 window for hours of pleasure. Because of the sound, sure, but also because of the sequencer. awesome! So well think, clever… so fun with the mutation and the variation modes. No, definitely I love Troublemaker. A Killer App, a Must Have! Note: the user manual is also very well done, the developer explains a lot of interesting things, and as I know that he is in holidays I could not stop myself to steal a large part of it.
Review by Ed FuzzPlus 3, is a resonant lowpass filter (modelled on the MS20 LPF) and a distortion engine (modelled on the Distortion+ pedal) with a feedback loop. You can use it as a Stand Alone App or as an Audio Unit plugins… I really wanted to review another Plugins from Audio Damage, after I made the review of Rough Rider which is now one of my favourite compressor effect… as I am not in the little papers of the Audio Damage team, (Apps4idevices is too old for they know me and A4irebirth too young for interesting them... 😀) so, I had to wait and hoping a new Free App from them… it’s happened yesterda last week and I was really excited to test it… like Rough Rider, this Plugins is very easy to use, not a lot of parameters… The particularity of FuzzPlus 3 is how the frequency knob interacts with the Feedback knob. By using these 2 knobs, you can create some very interesting sounds. FuzzPlus 3, you like it or not… I like it… very much! But if I rate it as a Super App only, it’s only because it’s a distortion effect, and even if I love the processed sound, I still need other Distortions’ Apps. Despite this it’s a Super App and a Must Have! A Must Have, first because of the processing quality, the unique sounding and secondly because FuzzPlus3 is Free!
Review by Ed If I start my review by telling you that I used MicSwap Pro everyday during the last 3 years, I will kill the suspense in the egg (French expression), but what can I do? Lie? No, impossible… Never mind, I killed the baby (yes, in French, we can also say that we kill the baby in the egg)… …Enough with (stupid) jokes and return to our sheep (French expression). MicSwap Pro is a microphone emulator and a stereo track recorder too (editor also, because you can trim your recording or your imported files). 15 MICROPHONES MODELLED • Shure SM58 • RCA 7• Sony Laval iframe • Megaphone • Amperite SR80 • Neumann U47 • Neumann U47 • Neumann KM140 • Neumann CMV563 • AKG 414 • AKG C12VR • Royer Ribbon R121 • Old Timey Radio Mic • Ribbon Fathead 1 • Ribbon Fathead 2. The App is very very well done… easy to use, swipe to select the previous or next microphone, (you can re order the microphones list in the dedicated page), Tap the logo on a microphone to display the infos. The recordings manager page,.. Perfect… everything is perfect, but this is not because of this that I used it everyday during the last 3 years everyday! It’s only because it’s the best mic emulator from all the App Store… the quality of processing, the choice of the mic models… when I plug my classical guitar into MicSwap,… OK, I can talk and talk, or write and write… The best is that you watch and listen to the video demo below… MicSwap Pro, a Killer App, a Must Have!
Review by Ed Plectrum is a classic emulation of plucked string instruments. It is impossible not to fall in love with its deep and complex sonority. Plectrum supports USB and Bluetooth MIDI devices and works both as a standalone application, and as an Audio Unit plugin for GarageBand and many other hosts. So, this is the App Store description… When I look the picture, it’s look like a Luth. When I listen to the generated sound, I like it, but, I am not totally sure that I am listening to a Luth… or a Luth mix with a clavinet… The App is very simple. 4 knobs, 1 for the Attack, 1 called Feedback (sustain) and the 2 last one for the Speed and the Depth of a Tremolo effect… strange for a Luth… on the bottom left side, a menu. Audio Unit plugins insert… (bugs) On the bottom right side, another menu. The presets library. 3 presets. In Summary: It's not sound like a real Luth, but, it’s not very important excepted if you was looking for a top Luth sound in the App Store… and even this, is not so important, because this App is totally Free, no App in Purchases… so, a big thanks to the developer… Note: the emulated sound is very good, the 4 knobs allows you to create a new instrument, unknown at this moment… So, a Super Good App for free!
