TwistedWave is a mono & stereo track audio recorder & editor. The best one! (The desktop version is also the best in its category!) Why it’s the best? For a lot of reasons, but one before all. One finger! Yes, with TwistedWave you can do everything with one finger only: zoom an audio file in or out. set a Loop, add Markers to this loop, add a Fade in or out, and this is awesome because most of the things we have to do with a stereo or mono audio editor needs to be very clear-cut. (Fade in & out, Trim,...). Because of this, we need to zoom in and out a lot. The Zoom in feature must to be efficient too.... for that, TwistedWave is awesome. Also, TwistedWave comes with a lot of very useful effects: Silence, Normalise, Gain, Pitch, Speed, Reverse, Dynamics, Reverb, Delay,… this is top, but the awesome is that you can also apply an Audio Unit plugins (effect) to your track. For the sharing features, Twistedwave is also the best and its online server where you can upload a file for Free (30 days) is just top! Check out the video to see how Twistedwave is easy to use. Check out the tutorial to see all the powerful of this App. A Killer App, a Must Have!

bs-16i is an sounds expander. It can play SoundFont and DLS files. You can also import your SoundFont and DLS files from another App, iCloud Drive, Dropbox,... The Stand Alone version is a 16 tracks sounds expander because of this it comes with a Mixer. For the Audio Unit you load as many instance of bs-16i as you need. The other difference is the Midi files player that you will not find in the Audio Unit version. Excepted that, the 2 synth module are the same. 4 sections. 1/ Output: Volume - Pan- Reverb - Chorus - Delay (Send) 2/ Tune: Coarse - Fine tune - Pitch - Portamento - Mono or Stereo 3/ Eg / Filter: Attack - Decay - Release / Cut-off - Q 4/ Vibrato: Rate - Depth - Delay In the App in Purchases, you can unlock the High Resolution engine (enables high-quality and low-noise audio outputs by 100% floating point calculations.) and 128 voices of polyphony (64 for the standard version). To conclude: bs-16i is a Must Have! Yes, because it always useful to have an App like this in our iDevice. On the Web you can find a lot of SoundFont files. A lot of instruments for free... The App is very well done and I like the 2 versions. A Killer App! A Must Have!
Review by Ed This is the tutorial 4 / The Sample page Wahoo! Awesome! One thing that I really really love is the Slices to Pads (Create Pattern) feature! Check out the video demo! Also, the Mapping page is great... Fast and easy to understand. As usual you will be able to insert a lot of plugins to a layer or a Pad. Also use the ADSR or AHD... The recorder and the "Move to next Pad" feature is great! BeatMaker is very powerful. Certainly the most powerful DAW from the App Store. A lot of features, but once you know them, it's easy to navigate inside Beatmaker 3. Next Tutorial the Audio Track.
Edit Sample Page Here you will be able to edit your Audio files. First, you will have to select the Layer and the associated audio file. By a Tap on the Edit button, your audio will be displayed in full screen mode. Edit function: Trim audio (zero to Snap / Snap to grid / no Snap) Copy / Paste Fade in & out / Silence / Time Stretching / Reverse / Stereo to mono Playing mode: No loop / Normal Play / Alternated Live Stretch & disc streaming Slice: Auto Slice Delete, copy & paste Slice Slices to Pads / Create Pattern Here is an awesome feature! In 2 minutes you will be able to slice an audio file (split or Grid), then to send all the slices to Pads and create a pattern too! Check out the video demo. Slice to Single or Multiple layers / Slices to Apple Loop Record Here also a great feature. You can auto assigned a new recording to the next Pad, in Synthesizer mode or not! ADSR OR AHD / 9 EQ Filters for each layers Layers Fx For each layer: Overdrive / SV Filter / Invert Phaser & Bit Crusher Modulations 1 more ADSR OR AHD per layer / the re trigger switch / Layer Gain & Tune setting Mapping I love this page. So easy to map your Sample on the keyboard! Plugin
You can insert an Audiobus, Audio Unit or IAA plugin to a Pad (More with Audiobus, AUM,... Check out below) After Funk Drummer, Rock Drum Machine 5, Soft Drummer and Super Metronome, here it is Brazilian Dum Machine. One of the 2 Percussions Drum Machine from LumBeat. (The other one is African Drum Machine, and I really hope that we will have the Asian One one of these days...). Here, 60 sounds / 30 different Percussions. 7 Banks: Bossa Nova, Afro, Samba, Batterie, Folclore, Forrô and Marcha. Also the user Bank where you will be able to save you rhythms. Around 100 rhythms! The sound quality is perfect, as usual with this developer. The App, awesome as usual with this developer. If it's the first time that you have a look at a LumBeat App, check out the review below and the other videos demos. (The Funk Drummer video shows you how to use the Jam Mode with an external Pedalboard.) A Killer App, a Must Have!
A very long time ago, in the previous millennium, there was no computer, so we had to record a real Drummer to make our recordings. In 1959, Wurlitzer released the first electro-mechanical drum machine called the Side Man, and a lot of others were released after. Cool for electronic music… In the middle of 1970, the first audio samplers start to arrive. With them and a lot of hours of programming, it was possible to “unused’ a Drummer during a recording session. When the iPad was released, some Drum Loop Apps were released. So cool, no more Audio CD with unnamed tracks, and no BPM… at this time, it was a revolution… in 2013, an App has been released: SuperMetronome Groovebox. I remember this day… I said to myself. “It’s not a metronome! It’s the future of the Drum Machine!“… Do you know the LumBeat Apps? I don’t know a better way to create a Drum track in 10 minutes. Not a Drum Machine track! A real Drum Track record with a real Drummer! Yes, I don’t the name of the Drummer, because he is super shy and always happens to hide in my iPad, but when I ask him to Jam on a pattern… wahoo… he jams! Yes, it’s crazy! And the worst, is that you can create your own patterns, select the sound for the 5 drums instruments, and ask the hidden Drummer to play a Fill when you like! Also, a Live Pads mode is available. 8 Pads, 8 patterns that you can control via Midi… A Song mode too. To conclude: There was before and after the LumBeat Apps. I am not kidding! It’s the ultimate Apps for creating Rhythms. I forgot to say 2 things: The sound quality of all the Sound Set is awesome! And 4 effects are also available: Compressor, Reverb, Delay, and EQ. My only problem is that I don’t know how to pay the Hidden Drummer after a recording… A Killer App! A Must Have! Review by Ed A multi band distortion. 3 bands. The App is very simple. An input and output volume on the 2 sides. In the center the 3 bands. Swipe up or down to set the distortion volume and left and right to set the frequency range. Easy. Easy, but great. Great for a lot uses. Not for guitar only. For my video demo I used it on a bass and a Drum Loop. I really love it... For a bass, it's awesome! You can add the distortion on the bass and low medium frequencies only... A distorted bass without the "dirty" of the high frequencies... For a Drum also,... You can dirty your sound in the same way. To conclude. Only one distortion but 3 bands... What I prefer to have? That or 3 conventional distortions. Wthout any hesitation, this one! Check out the video demo.... A Killer App, a Must Have!
Review by Ed A week ago I made the review of CMP Grand Piano. Now it’s time to review Colossus Piano. I am very lucky because the developer sent me a redeem code to unlock all the in app purchases. Unfortunately, my iPad has not enough free space to download all of them. For example the Master peace of this App is Colossius Concert Grand 14tGb! All the in app purchases need around 30Gb of Free space to be downloaded, so I will post a review for each of the packs. In this App there an Electric Piano pack also… when I saw it I was a little bit intrigued. What’s about the the Fender Rhodes or the Wurlitzer Tremolo effect? No problem, 2 more knobs come with the Electric Piano pack: Tremolo frequency & Tremolo depth. More, 1 other knob, The Pad volume.... in fact, for each loaded instrument you can choose to add a Pad "sound" layer. (Violins). I like that even if the purists will find this function a little superfluous. Also, an Electronic Music mode. The 2 Tremolo knobs are replaced by one. A Tremolo speed. The Pianos installed from this set : 1 Electric Grand & Electric Mix. 2 FM Electric Grand & 1 FM Electric Mix. 3 Clarinets & 1 Reed Piano. 5 Fender Rhodes. 4 Wurlitzers. 1.6 Gb of stereo samples. (24 bit / 96 KHz) In use: I had a little problem with AUM App, perhaps due to my iPad (Air 1) and the memory uses by Colossius Piano. No problem with Audiobus and the Audio Unit version. Switching from an instrument to another as well as adding the Pad layer or using the Electronic mode takes a little time. With the Audio Unit version, it’s not a big “problem”. It is a little bit more annoying with the IAA version because of the lack of a presets library. (You have to swipe to select an instrument, and each time you swipe Colossius Piano load an instrument.) The Audio Unit version is very simple. Only the Presets library. No other features. The other features: (Stand Alone and IAA version) The built in keyboard can be enlarge. Note that I had a little problem when I tried to use it with Audiobus. (I had to hit the keyboard keys so hard, that I decided to use 2 Midi controller's Apps.) Another great feature is the Hermode Tuning: Makes the sound more brilliant by controlling the pitch of the notes in multivoiced music to better frequency ratios than with fixed tuning. Note that the polyphony can be set to up 140 voices. The MIDI velocity response curve can be set via the editor to fine tune your MIDI keyboard, you can save them as presets. Also, a Reverb: 18 presets. A great quality of processing… In the second page is dedicated to the Midi file player and recorder. Unlimited MIDI tracks. (You can import MIDI files via iTunes files sharing) I had a little bug here, when I was playing a Midi track and tried to switch from a Piano to another. Problem was resolved when I stopped the Midi file before to swipe to another Piano. To conclude, the Electric Piano Pack is really great I love the sound. I am really happy to have a Clavinet too! Take your time with this App and everything should be OK. A Killer sound set! A Must Have!
Review by Ed DirectionalEQ is unique from all the App Store because it combines EQ and pan and this is awesome. I explain… DirectionalEQ is a stereo 5 bands parametric EQ. Each band comes with the same controls. A Gain (+/-20dB), Frequency (16Hz to 22kHz), Filter Q, At this moment everything is “normal" but just below 2 more knobs: A Degree and a Directional Gain. (Below again, Mute, Solo, and the the filter types: band-pass (two types), notch, low-/high-pass, low-shelf, high-shelf and peak). The Degree knob (-45 to 45 degrees) will pan a band and the Directional Gain controls overall gain in the direction set by the Degree control. In use: As you can see below, the UI is very simple. For example, no master out level meter, which can be a little bit annoying when you are using the Stand Alone version of DirectionalEQ. Also, and this is not because of the App, but because of what DirectionalEQ allows you to do, you can be a little bit lost while you are shaping an audio signal. Take care of what types of EQ filter you are using on all bands. Use the Mute and Solo button to check what you are doing... In summary: I love, no, I really love the concept, the processing quality and the Solo button is really helpful… You can also use it as a conventional 5 bands EQ without to use the 2 Degrees knobs. A Killer App! A Must Have for real sound engineers....
Review by Ed This is the last App that I will review from this developer because of a very big dispute with him… No, I am kidding! No, because I already reviewed all his Apps: Alina String Ensemble, Super Manetron and Combo Organ. I love all of them… perfect emulations of instruments that I really love. Pocket Organ is an Hammond organ. The sound quality is really great and the 20 drawbars give you the sensation to play on a real Hammond organ. (9 for the 2 main keyboards and 2 for the Bass) . On the main screen, 2 knobs (on the right side) allow to set the Scale for the 2 keyboards named Great and Swell. A transpose switch is available for the Bass one. All the keyboards can be scrolled. All the other switches are dedicated to the presets excepted the one, down, on the left corner: the Tremolo (Leslie). You can choose to assign the Tremolo to the 2 main keyboards, the rotary type or to stop it as well in the third page, The Fx page. Here an Overdrive, a Reverb and 5 switches for the Keyboards. Clic, Perc and Harmonic sounds. Volume (touch) and Decay. The second screen is dedicated to the 20 drawbars. To conclude. This emulation is one more time great. The presets in app purchases too. Everything is perfect excepted one thing. The lack of a Midi implementation! I don’t know why, but it’s too bad because playing with the 3 keyboards is not so easy and I know that a real Hammond player will be very frustrated to play on his iPad instead of a external Midi controller. The other players, like me will be very disappointed to not be able to control it with a Midi sequencer. Only because of this I rate it as a very good App and not a Killer one, but I really hope that I will be able to change my rating when a future update will be released. With the Midi Feature....
Review by Ed Speak Unit is unique in the App Store because it’s the only Audio Unit App that can speak text. Speak Unit is a Robot, and because of this he has a typical accent from the Robot’s Galaxy. He can talk 12 phrases of 150 characters. I love Robots. I love speak to text Apps. I love also the unique Apps. Because of this, a Killer Apps! A Must Have! Note that the Audio Unit version allows you to save all your phrases.
Review by Ed A long time ago in this Galaxy, a developer released a Metronome’s App like no other. A so powerful Metronome with an awesome sounding that I used it at this time as a Audio Drum Loops generator! With time SuperMetronome received some new awesome features… First, SuperMetronome is a 3 tracks sequencer very easy to use. Select a Rhythm and a Sound from a bank. You can also modified the rhythm or create your owns. You can set the instrument playing for each tracks. Drum,, Percussions, Cymbals, Clicks,… you can set the volume and the pan for each tracks. At this moment it’s a Killer Metronome, but to be a Must Have or an Unique one, we need more… For the Must Have we have a Progressive Tempo feature! Set the Start and End Tempo, the number of Bars when the Tempo will change and to finish the BPM Snap value. Top! Awesome! For the Unique App from all the App Store, let’s talk about the beat Hider feature… Set the number of Bars a Rhythm will play. Press the play button. When the number of Bars will be reached SuperMetronome will stop to play a sound during the specified Bars number. Then it will restart! Really cool feature that I never seen before. In summary, SuperMetronome is not Super Metronome, but a Killer Metronome! A Must Have, an Unique one!
